This safe, comfortable way of detecting colon cancer and polyps in the early stages of development. It requires no sedation and is highly accurate in detecting polyps over 10mm in size.
Although a colonoscopy is considered the gold standard for intestinal diagnostics, a Virtual Colonography offers an excellent screening alternative that does not require sedation or an invasive probe. Instead, air is used to better visualize the colon.
This new method of imaging the entire colon that is non-invasive than a traditional colonoscopy. This procedure is simple and comfortable.
Before your scan, you are required to drink a special liquid to clean out the intestine and to fast for four to eight hours. You will then lie on a scanner table. While holding your breath for about 20 seconds, hundreds of cross-sectional images of the abdomen will be acquired. Subsequently, a computer will reconstruct a 3-D, transparent image of the colon that is reviewed from all angles by the doctor.
